Outdoor Painting Barrow Hill Roundhouse

Outdoor Painting Barrow Hill Roundhouse

What a pleasure outdoor painting with friends, at the Barrow Hill Roundhouse. Built in the 19th century to house freight locomotives which served the Staveley Coal and Iron Works, it is the only surviving Roundhouse Engine shed in Great Britain. To day it is run by a dedicated team of preservationists, and volunteers. A fascinating collection of steam, diesel and electric locomotives, are all on view. My personal favorite the Butler Henderson 506, a proper train. Challenging to capture put totally worth the effort thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. Will certainly be paying another visit soon.

Sketchbook Tour No 3 Cornwall and Amsterdam

Morning fellow creatives Snowing and cold, I do think this is possibly the worst two weeks of the year for the great British weather. Hopefully early spring sunshine is not too far away, and we will all be able to get in the garden, and go eagerly outside with our sketching kit to enjoy it. So I offer sketchbook tour No 3 of North Cornwall, this trip was not all sunshine, but still lovely, invigorating, would be an appropriate word to describe it. Personally I love changing conditions, it gets the creative juices going. The last few pages of this...

1 st Sketches of 2021

Hello from snowy DerbyshireSo excited all last week to get started on the new tree project. I quickly realized that all great journeys start at the begging, and have all the P's in place, perfect preparation and all that.So to this end went out eagerly with sketching kit to investigate trees with an inquiring eye.Wind, snow, rain, and fleetingly beautiful sunshine and that was just the first 5 minutes, but then I do live in Derbyshire, so all part of the fun.So what did I learn, ... keep focus and don't get side tracked by fleeting moments. Unless they are...
